Devious Journal Entry

Sat Jul 15, 2006, 11:10 AM
It's the middle of summer and I've just been chilling at home, and it's great :XD:. I have one summer class that i'm doing, and the only downfall is that I have to wake up at 8:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've been getting awesome shot with my digital - my recent one, Detail on an Oriental Lily, came out amazingly nice. I may do some rose photographs, if the beetles in our side yard will stop eating them... they're beautiful, but they can't bloom because the little devils eat them before they can come out of the bud :(.

I also entered in an art contest and i hope to totally dominate my category :XD:. There are also cash prizes, so i hope i get some spending money out of it. I'm doing a watercolor of oriental lilies, a mixed media (havent decided on the subject... i might paint a butterfly if i can't think of anything else) and maybe a pencil drawing, if I can finish it before the second week of august.

Speaking of money... give me some! I do commissions and sell prints and originals as well! You can get all the information at my website: [link] I need money, and my mom gets tired of me borrowing. :)

WHOA

(wakes up from long hibernation)

Oh dang, I didn't realize how long I would be gone! I'm so happy to finally find the time to post a journal! I've been so busy with school and such and I've only had the time to get on deviantart and maybe check my inbox. Anyway, I have a few new things to submit and talk about.

School is finally winding down! Spring is here, which is my favorite time of the year. I love it when all the flowers come out.... it's so much more inspiring than winter (and a lot warmer).

I took a few more pictures of the flowers/trees in our neighborhood and I might post one or two of them up here. I'm really happy with the way the photos came out... our new digital is so much better than our old one. There are more pixels, which means more clarity. I'm also happy about the intensity of color you get-- not that washed out kind of color that i used to have to fix up. I'll have to find a lot of cool things to photograph with it XD. I have a feeling i'm going to be the only one in my family using the camera extensively... :P

Oh, and I finished that bleeding heart painting. Man... i'm going to have to take a class on acrylic painting or something, because it didn't come out like i expected... i totally screwed up the leaves, and just quickly finished off the flowers. I don't have as much control as i do with a colored pencil... i need to learn to be patient, I think. I think I just need some basic acrylic guidelines so i can avoid screwing up... I'll look on the internet for any good tutorials :P.

I'll take a few pictures of it and post them soon.

Now to my latest creation: The Royalty series. It's just going to be three drawings of different types of horses... i'm not sure if all the horses are actually used for royalty, but they're each very beautiful in their own way. I just submitted the first one, the lipizzaner. I'm considering rescanning it though, because the blending is not shown in a lot of places and it makes the drawing look horrible. I use the same pictures on dA as i do on my website too, so it HAS to look good if people are gonna buy it (if anyone actually goes to my website, that is! :D ). They will all be up for sale, and you can also buy all three of them together.

I also checked my email today and to my surprise, Chelsea had given me the password to the G-l-o-v-e account! I had talked about the community with her and said that it would be better off staying at deviantART... and then later i asked if i could have some sort of position in the club now that school is almost over and i'll have more time over the summer. So it seems that i'm given the responsibility of taking over management! Anyone else, tell me if you're willing to help out because i don't want to handle this all by my lonesome. I'll put up a new journal on g-l-o-v-e and take the deviations out of storage, and we'll go from there.

so i have to submit some photos, resubmit the horse drawing, comment on these pictures sitting in my inbox, and get g-l-o-v-e up and running again. Hopefully i can get this all done in this weekend or in the next! I hope everyone is doing wonderfully and enjoying the great weather (if you live in that kind of area... :P)

Catching Up

Fri Feb 24, 2006, 1:30 PM
So I finally got a chance to update! I just finished a really long paper for government and I'm not really confident in it but w/e.

I started on that painting of the bleeding hearts and I think it will come out nice. A few weeks ago I sat down and just mixed some colors together to get the right hues for the flowers and the leaves (I don't have many good colors straight out of the tube). I was surprised that I found a good use for my tube green. The green that comes out of the tube is particularly hideous, but when I mixed some yellow into it it got a little brighter and more opaque; so that will be the color I will be using for the leaves. The flowers will prob. be pink or magenta depending on how dark I feel like making them.
I also finished a watercolor painting! I was just typing in random keywords on a stock photo website search and I came up with this beautiful picture of an octopus. It inspired me enough to paint it- but when I started on the outline, I realized how much of a pain it would be to paint all of its suckers! Anyways I got all of it done, but I'm having a problem putting it on my computer. The picture is too big for my scanner. I considered trying the digital camera, but I'm afraid it won't work (It's been acting really fussy lately and won't take pictures. I keep telling my mom to get a new one because we REALLY NEED IT but she never gets back to me on that). I have to at least TRY and get some pics of it, though, because I want to put it up for sale on my own website as well. It'll probably be around 60-75 dollars for the original. Prints would depend on the size.
I asked my mom to make me a costume for when the Renn Fest rolls around again. It'll be especially helpful if my friends and I get in as travelling musicians. I found some patterns for like corsets and things.. and my mom seems pretty enthusiastic about it (she likes sewing too much :P). This weekend is pretty much free so I can just spend it relaxing and doing some really easy homework. I hope everyone is doing wonderful!

it's Jan 25 and HappyDrizzt says....

Hope everyone's doing well!

I haven't updated in a while. I just got done playing with leow-cornell oil pastels and they're not much different than my pro-art ones. I think the `colors are a little more vibrant... i was trying to paint a picture of a wren and i got a more vibrant brown than i had expected! i dont think that picture will go up on dA but i'm thinking of these to work on:

1. the bleeding heart in acrylic. I got more canvas and and i found that reference photo i used before-- i might find more refs so i can add leaves to frame the flower.
2. The dahlias in watercolor - this one is going to take a longer time to do because i might sketch out the individual petals... or i might just wing it with paint and try to make the leaves myself. Idk.
3. more practice with still lifes. I'm not thinking of fruit necessarily but maybe things like vases, jars, and fake flowers (we have a lot of those :XD:).
4. anything that i can put on my website (!). Idk if i mentioned it but i made a website and already sold one print (they're kinda cheap). You can reach my website from this account, actually. there's alink at the top of the page. Anyway, there are only three pictures in the gallery section so I think I'm going to put anything I make that I think looks worthy of being sold. There's contact info on the website if you wanna get something.

so that's my agenda. I'm not sure which one i'm going to get around to yet but hopefully i'll do the bleeding heart, then the still life practices, then the dahlias and maybe some other things scattered in between.

... btw what happened to =g-l-o-v-e? Hope the admin is doing alright :P

So anyway....

this weekend is a little busy but maybe i can start drawing the flower and setting up my workstation for painting-- in two weeks i have a four day weekend and if i have nothing piled on me, i can paint it.

bye all!

Happy New Years!

Sun Jan 1, 2006, 6:09 PM
hahahaha it's a little late to be saying it but HAPPY NEW YEARS OMGLKSJCVJKNEARHR

Okay so I posted up a new deviation and it took me longer than I thought it would. It made me wonder how bad I am at still life-- i like to draw still life but I haven't done it in months. I actually really like drawing things made of glass-- it's complicated and fun at the same time. I think I might try my hand at a flute. I've drawn it before but I think i can definitely do better.

Now there are two paintings that I really wanted to do: one of dahlias and another or that bleeding heart. I took inventory and found out that I need another watercolor sketchbook and more canvas. Should I get a canvas sketchbook? I've seen them in stores.. it's just that something tells me they're not worth the money. I can't remember how much they were priced at when I last went to Michael's.

so in two days or so I go back to school. Bummer since I have no idea what my grades are AND I BETTER PULL THEM ALL UP TO B'S IF THEY'RE NOT. This quarter was pretty bad. I think i tried to overwork myself, and in the process forgot about all the little details that set me back. I hope third quarter is better (sigh)

I wasn't originally going to advertise on deviantART but I think I will anyway: I'm starting to sell my art! Hahaha for a price you can have a piece of ME!

the website isn't up yet, but when it is I'll put the link in here. I just hope the url isn't too long.
